Gender and Communication: Representative

My name is Carla Cerqueira and I am a PhD student at the Communication Sciences department at University of Minho (Portugal). My research project focuses on the evolution of journalistic speech in the International Women’s Day (1975-2007) in the Portuguese press. I am a researcher for the Centre of Communication and Society Studies (Centro de Estudos de Comunicação e Sociedade – CECS) in the same higher education establishment where I am currently developing my PhD project. My research interests include gender and media studies, cultural studies, communication policy and technologies. I have recently participated in several conferences that focused in the gender studies and communication areas. I maintain an active involvement in feminist movements, and am currently coordinating a project about gender representations in Portuguese media by a non-governmental organization. As the YECREA- section representative for Gender and Communication my aim is to post information on conferences, summer school and trainee programmes, funding opportunities, etc. I think that is very important to create a network of young scholars to involve all in the gender and communication section.
