New Book on Racism
NEW BOOK FOR THE GERMAN SPEAKING COMMUNITY:
Melter, Claus; Mecheril, Paul (Hrsg.) Rassismuskritik. Band 1: Rassismustheorie und -forschung. Wochenschau Verlag, Schwalbach/Ts. 2009
The first anthology out of two volumes reflects the concept of race and the different dimensions of racism. The first chapter revolves around a systematic theoretical reflection about racisms like anti-semitism, anti-ziganism, anti-islamic racism and historical issues of analysis in a post-fascist society. The second chapter continues with articles about the flexibility and complexity of the concept. Rolf Leiprecht and Helma Lutz for instance explore the continuity and intersectionality of racism and sexism and reveil thus the processes of social construction of both. The last chapter collects exemplaric case studies about racism in schools (Helena Flamm), in the police (Herman Blom; Joseph Chefu) and about right-wing dynamics in political culture (Seddick Bibouche, Josef Held).
