Audience and Reception Studies: Representative
I am Ranjana Das, currently working as a post-doc in Germany. From April 2012, I shall be taking up a permanent position in the UK, starting as Lecturer in the Department of Media and Communication, University of Leicester. Right now, (May 2011-March 2012), I am a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Luneburg, Germany. The post-doc is a research endeavor under European Commission funding within the Moving Image Lab project. It involved observation and interviews with families and children in Greater London focusing on children’s relationships with a popular culture phenomenon. I conducted my fieldwork over Autumn 2011 and am writing up the results at the moment. I received my PhD (2008-2011) in September 2011 from the Department of Media and Communication at theLondon School of Economics. My thesis is available here.
In my role as section rep, I am organising an event in Brussels in April 2012 bringing 3 generations of audience researchers together. The event website is here- http://crossgenerationalworkshop.wordpress.com/ Do write to me with more ideas if you wish! At the 2010 ECC, the YECREA Communication and Democracy representative and I worked together to organise an experience exchange panel on academic careers. More on that here.
