Political Communication: Representative
YECREA section representative - introduction and contact information: Dear all, my name is Melanie Magin and I am a research assistant at the Department of Communication at the University of Mainz. My research interests are political communication, media systems, comparative research, and media entertainment. In December 2011, I finished my PhD on campaign coverage in Germany and Austria from 1949 to 2006.
In 2005, I attained a Master's degree in Communication Studies, Sociology, and Book Science from the University of Mainz. From 2005 to 2006, I worked as a research assistant there. From 2006 to 2011 I was a research assistant at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna and returned to Mainz in April 2011. From October 2010 to November 2011, I was spokesperson of NapoKo, a network of young scholars working in the field of political communication in the German-speaking countries. Since June 2011, I have been Young Scholars Representative of the DGPuK (German Communication Association).
In my experience, networking is a pivotal skill for any scientist on a national as well as on an international level – and young scholars should start establishing networks as early as possible. For me, it is of great importance to contribute my share to improving the networking between young scholars. A network requires communication in both directions. So, I invite you to get involved and contact me, if you have any questions, suggestions or news related to the section. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
