PhD Studentship in Digital Media, University of Warwick
WMG (formerly Warwick Manufacturing Group) is an academic department at the University of Warwick. It was established by Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya in 1980 in order to reinvigorate UK manufacturing. Our success over the past 30 years is the result of cutting edge research and effective knowledge transfer, working with global companies. Today we work across many sectors including automotive; aerospace and defence; digital; energy and utilities; food and drink; government; healthcare and pharmaceutical.
The University of Warwick is arguably the most successful of UK universities founded within the past half-century, and has earned an outstanding reputation for research and teaching. Warwick is comfortably ranked within the top ten of all UK university league tables. The latest national UK newspaper tables all ranked Warwick in the top ten (The Times, Sunday Times, The Independent) and 3rd place (The Guardian) overall.
We have a number of studentships available to UK nationals and those of equivalent status*(fees are paid plus a tax-free £13,590 stipend for PhDs and £15,090 for EngDs) or EU Nationals (fees will be paid but the payment of a stipend is dependent upon a number of factors including the residency of the applicant and funding restrictions imposed on a particular project). The studentships are available for periods of 3 years (4 years for EngD), commencing October 2010.
*Please note eligibility – we can only offer these studentships to UK Citizens or EU-Citizens. Applicants from outside the EU are not eligible for these studentships due to funding restrictions.
A number of these projects have industrial sponsorship and will attract a minimum tax-free supplement of £3,500 for a PhD, £4000 for an EngD).
Applicants should have (or be about to receive) a First class or high 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in a subject area relevant to the chosen field and some experience of carrying out a research project. Those with an MSc are particularly welcome to apply.
