Media and Communication - Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI)
CAMRI is the UK’s number one research group in media and communication. It has an international reputation recognised by the Research Assessment Exercise with a top level rating of 5 (1992, 1996, 2001, and 2008).
The Institute has strengths in a wide and expanding range of research interests, including media economics and policy, media history, political communication, media audiences, questions of identity and media, new media, and international communication. The Institute has 25 research active staff and 50 PhD students whose work has a strong international dimension, with members who are leading experts on media in India, China and the Arab world, as well in the study of audiences in Europe.
CAMRI hosts the China Media Centre, the largest centre in Europe devoted to the study of Chinese media, along with the Arab Media Centre and African media Centre. An Indian Media Centre will be launched early in 2010.
In the broadest sense we are interested in the social, economic, political and cultural significance of the media, and welcome proposals from prospective students on these or any other topic related to media and communication. Prospective students wishing to informally discuss an application should contact Dr Anthony McNicholas on mcnichc@westminster.ac.uk For information about how to apply, visit our website at: http://www.westminster.ac.uk/schools/media/research/research-studentships-2010 .
