of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) is inviting the
submission of papers in all areas of international and intercultural communication for
the forthcoming conference in collaboration with the Hans Bredow Institute, and the
University of Hamburg and the Hamburg Media School in Hamburg, Germany from 12 to 15
October 2010.

The general theme of the conference is 'Transcultural Communication -- Intercultural
Comparisons'. The organizers call for proposals in all fields of communication and media
studies, but particularly invite conceptual, empirical, and methodological proposals on
inter- and transcultural communication phenomena and/or on comparative research.

IIC welcomes cross-and-inter-disciplinary proposals, proposals on emerging but also
long-standing themes, methodologies and approaches.

IIC encourages the submission of critical work and work that pushes the boundaries of
the field and the study of communication policy.

IIC encourages also the submission of proposals dealing with the challenges of
transcultural and transnational media governance and the challenges of transnational and
intercultural media policy formulation.

IIC also invites scholars to submit papers for the Pre-conference to ECREA 2010 – 3rd
European Communication Conference “Doing Global Media Studies: Comparative methods of
transcultural and transnational research” which will be held in Bremen, Germany, on the
11th and 12th October 2010. The Pre-conference is organized by NIIK – Network
Intercultural and International Communication

GUIDELINES FOR THE SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS AND PROPOSALS

We accept proposals for individual papers, panels as well as poster presentations. All
proposals must be submitted through the conference website:
www.ecrea2010hamburg.eu

Abstracts should be written in English and should contain a clear outline of the
argument, the theoretical framework, and where applicable methodology and results. The
preferred length of the individual abstracts is between 400 and 500 words (the maximum
is 500 words).

Panel proposals --which should consist of five individual contributions-- combine a
panel abstract with five individual abstracts, each of which are between 400 and 500
words.

Participants may submit more than one proposal, but only one paper or poster by the same
first author will be accepted and programmed. First authors can still be second (or
third, etc.) author of other papers or posters, and can still act as chair or respondent
of a panel.

*Deadline: 28 February 2010*

All proposals should be submitted through the website no later than 28 February 2010.
Please note that this submission deadline will not be extended!

To avoid technical problems, early submission is strongly encouraged.
