Call for contributions: European Memories and the construction of a collective European Memory

Call for Contributions: « Richie Europa Newsletter 2010 »
« European Memories and the construction of a collective European Memory »

DEADLINE: 15th January 2010

The next issue of the « Richie Europa Newsletter » will focus on the theme of « European Memories and the construction of a collective European Memory ». As an opening article, Cristina Blanco Sío-López, from the Centre Virtuel de la Connaissance sur l’Europe (CVCE, Luxembourg) will offer a methodological and bibliographical introduction to this polyedric topic. Following this introductory article, we expect to offer a survey of the current research developments on this field and thus we encourage PhD and post-doctoral researchers to send an abstract of their ongoing or concluded project so that it can be included and reviewed in the newsletter. We are particularly interested in offering an overview of PhD projects either in progress or recently completed which take the issue of historical memory as their main viewpoint.

Possible topics may include, but are not restricted to:

 -Memory and Identity in Europe
- The construction of a common European memory based on constantly interacting histories
- Historical memory, education curricula and the making of a common European History
-Memory and exile in Europe
-Instrumental memories and denials of historical memory
-Turning points, reinvented memories and self-appointed new eras
-Intertwined European and national legacies
-Memory, globalisation and localisation from a European perspective

We welcome abstracts of 2000 characters (1 page) maximum from postgraduate researchers at all stages of their career, including current PhD researchers.

Abstracts should be sent to Cristina Blanco Sío-López at:
