Communication History - Representative

Hey there! My name is Christian Schwarzenegger and I am a research assistant and Phd student at the Institute of Language and Communication Studies at RWTH Aachen University. Prior to starting my Phd I earned my Master's degree in Communications at the University of Vienna where I was project assistant and lecturer and am still giving courses on communication research in a historical perspective. I specialize on the history of everyday culture, the history of the banal and the relevance of popular culture for social and cultural memory.

Communication History doesn't necessarily refer to a specific field of research interests or topics that are being dealt with: Rather than describing what you do in your research, Communication History describes how you think about it. With sensitivity for durations, interconnections, change, developement and non-linear progress. So Communication History is per se ideal for interdisciplinary and inter-section cooperation.

The newly founded Communication History Section clarifies in its section objectives that it intends to promote and sustain young scholars in the field of Communication History and therefore the Chairs of the section interact closely with the YECREA representative. Problems of young scholars are taken seriously by the Section.

I try to be a junction between the established Communication Historians and us youngsters. I want to measure the landscape of young scholars in the interdisciplinary field of communication History and want to „map“ information on Who and Where we are and what research topics we are involved in. The aim is to build a platform of support when struggling with organizational and administrative obstacles, funding efforts, career strategies, in the search for cooperations or just partners for discussion in general or for Phd related problems in particular. I am also involved in and supporting the organization of doctoral workshops and try to cooperate with national young scholar initiatives and other sections.

As it is my duty to re-present I am also dependent on your input, your ideas for the section, your interests and demands. So just let's get or stay in touch and present your issues to me, so that i can represent them. Looking forward to hearing from you,
Cheers
Christian
