Title of the presentation:
Cultural identity in local, national and global perspectives - reflections on frameworks and variables

Short abstract of the presentation:
For almost two decades, the media landscape has changed with the development of new communication technology. Today, people live in a media environment not only local and national, but also global. Children grow up with completely new conditions with the possibility to be a part of the global communication flow on an everyday basis. One question one might ask is if this is changing the view of cultural belonging. And if so, what role do local media play for cultural and national belonging in this new context? Are young media consumers interested in what is going on in a local context in the same time as they identify themselves to belong to a more global context? This workshop is about how to identify boundaries, both cultural and geographical, in order to set up studies with the aim to highlight this problem. The aim of the workshop is also to discuss dilemmas and problems with studies where intercultural aspects are parts of the core of the research question.
