What is news? The young media consumers’ perspectives
Short abstract of the presentation:
The attention of the lecture will be on children and news as a research field. The first part will focus on theories and previous research within this field with a special emphasis on Scandinavia. The second part will focus on empirical findings on children’s own ways of describing and re-telling news stories. This part will also highlight methods of research when children are involved.
Short biography:
Ebba Sundin is assistant professor in Media and Communication Studies at Jönköping University, Sweden. Her research interests include media and children with a special focus on children and news. She has studied children and newspaper reading in Sweden and Canada. One of her recent studies is a study of Brand New Planet, a newspaper project for children in Toronto, Canada. She is also involved in an international research project about Internet appropriation among university students in Canada, Sweden, France and Mexico.
