YECREA has been allocated a panel slot at the upcoming European Communication Conference (ECC 2026) in Brno under the conference theme “Shifting Grounds: Paths, Connections, and Futures.” This year, we want to make our panel space open for early-career scholars to shape together.
Here is the full call:
Currently, several forces are “shifting grounds” for young scholars. Political shifts to the right, growing anti-intellectualism, and shrinking research budgets are reshaping what it means to build an academic career. At the same time, technological transformations, especially generative AI and automation, are redefining what it means to do social science research.
We invite submissions that explore how early-career researchers experience and respond to these shifting grounds:
What does it mean, and is it still worth it, to build a career in communication and media research today?
What kind of ruptures, pressures, and opportunities are emerging in relation to employment conditions, mental health and wellbeing, and scholarly cooperation and competition?
We especially welcome experimental formats and perspectives, including utopian or dystopian takes on academic life.
Format and submission
We only accept panel submissions, not individual papers. Panels can take the form of several paper presentations, a roundtable, a workshop, or other creative formats. Please submit your proposal through the ECC 2026 submission system, following the conference’s panel submission guidelines. More information here: https://ecrea2026brno.eu/call-for-papers/
