
Ekwutosi Sanita Nwakpu is a media and communication scholar. She previously served as a YECREA representative for the Ethics of Mediated Human Suffering Section before becoming a member of the YECREA management team.
She completed her PhD in Media Studies in 2025 at Edge Hill University, United Kingdom. She works as an academic in Nigeria and UK, bringing cross-regional perspectives to teaching and research. Ekwutosi was nominated as an Exceptional Promise Global Talent by the British Academy in 2025. She is currently a CODESRIA Africa Academic Diaspora to Support University Fellow, contributing to research capacity building and academic collaboration between African universities and the global scholarly community.
Ekwutosi’s research focuses on cosmopolitan empathy, crisis communication, media audiences, and the ethical dimensions of mediated human suffering. She is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and affiliated with the Television Research Working Group at Edge Hill University. Ekwutosi serves on the editorial team of the International Journal of Sub-Saharan African Research supporting peer review and knowledge production scholarship.
